Many happy returns of the day to our beloved mother - always a source of resolute strength, selfless love and painstaking care. Taught us how to appreciate literature and nature, a sense of wonder for history and who we are, empathy and giving, the joy and value of hard work, values and ethics, manners and courtesy, the necessity of the spiritual, and an eye for appreciating beauty and what is of true value. She continues to dedicate her time and energy to teaching and nurturing street children with the same deep affection, skill and diligence with which she taught me and my sister. No wonder they simply love her. And kudos to her also for suffering us with all our failings over all these years. These, and many others still, are just far too many boons and gifts for us to be able to ever thank her for in one lifetime. Nusrat Siddique Mariya Faraz
