Many jobs have been replaced by technology, and wont be coming - TopicsExpress

Many jobs have been replaced by technology, and wont be coming back. We all are doing the work of former jobs-holders when we fill our own sodas at McDonalds or work through phone the menus of all kinds of businesses that have replaced people with automation. The biggest lie in America is Wait times for an agent are long because of increased call volume. No, wait times for an agent are long because theyve fired all but one or two call agents. Yesterday when I deposited a check at my banks drive-up window, the teller told me, in a scripted message she had been ordered to tell everyone -- You can load the banks app to your phone and take a picture of your checks and deposit them that way. I said But that eventually puts people like you out of work, doesnt it. She said Uh . . . . Having said all of that, America does not have all of the jobs it COULD provide (those not forever lost to technology) because the House of Representatives has effectively blocked the Presidents full slate of job-recovery programs. They want no economic success story for a Democratic President, and the countrys welfare be damned. Republican members of Congress even thought it was a great idea to put ALL government workers out of jobs for three weeks last October, which was on top of federal salaries being frozen for three years before that. Thats no pay raise for three years, ladies and gentlemen, and Paul Ryan called for continuing the freeze through 2015. One very intended effect of stiffing federal workers is to drive good talent into the private sector, meaning you get less qualified applicants for government jobs. The G.O.P. thus deliberately cultivates into the federal government the very kind of incompetence they want to complain about.
