Many of the most deserving children in the area gathered this past Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Summersville Lake Lighthouse to see Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive by the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Truck bearing gifts for all. Nicholas County School Superintendent, Keith Butcher provided the Elves at the Lighthouse with fifty of the students in his district as having the greatest need and an appeal was put out to the community. Friends of the Lighthouse stepped up to answer the call by providing food and hot chocolate while Mrs. Claus escorted every child up to sit and express their wishes personally to the Big Guys himself. Santa presented each child with their very own gift bag overflowing with not only basic necessities such as hats, gloves, toothbrushes, books, games, puzzles, etc. but also model airplanes, science kits, and to the childrens delight, new fishing rods -n- reels! Amanda Haddox and Ron Gaskins from the Charleston Camera Club provided photographs onsite for each child to take home as a memento. Many thanks also to the individuals and following businesses that helped make the event possible: Cabelas, Northside Chevrolet, Northside Chrylser, Bounds Construction, Gilgal United Methodist Church, United Way, Dr. Lewis Gilbert, KMac Ad Specialties, Sav-a-lot, Big Lots, Kandi McCullough, and Taylor Miller for giving these children the opportunity to believe in the spirit of Christmas.
