Many of us have people in our lives that are veterans past and present. Mine was my father, who served in WWII as a paratrooper in the Pacific Operation. He would have been 91 this year. While he never discussed details of his experiences very often, he was proud of his service. He served in the 11th Airborne and made over 20 jumps in combat. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, numerous Campaign Medals, was wounded twice in battle and thus received two Purple Hearts. I have his medals framed and on the wall in my house as a grim reminder of the cost of freedom. My Uncle Fritz served during the Korean war. We remember him as well! We post a selection we have held back until today from a recital given on October 5th on our 2013 installation (4M/142) at First Reformed Church in Scotia, NY by Craig S. Williams, the Organist and Choir Master at The Cadet Chapel at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Fittingly he performed this moving piece, Variations on the Star Spangled Banner by Dudley Buck. Thank you Craig AGAIN for a superb recital. We do appreciate your talent! We hope, that even those of you that do not prefer organ music, that you listen to it to honor those who have served to preserve our freedom over the decades. Also, please tell every service man or woman and veteran that you know or run into that you appreciate their courage and brave service to our nation. Please share this post! youtube/watch?v=jutU0sZzsYc
