Many of you have responded to Brooke Marriott Bartlettas heart rending post sharing her experience last night. Id like to echo her concern about what the Tuesday forecast holds for those without shelter. Homeless individuals prefer snow to rain because rain soaks through clothes and a bone chilling cold sets in. There is a very real danger that exposure deaths will happen on Tuesday for those who are without shelter. So heres something C.O.P.E. can do about that. We can meet to write and sign a petition that we will personally deliver to the politicians we feel most suited to help our cause. As individuals, we are ignored. As our numbers and presence grow, it becomes harder for our individual appeals to be ignored. The potential request we (C.O.P.E. members) will make is for the installation of short term emergency trailers that are similar to what the government provides in cases of natural disaster that will provide shelter until the proposed shelter is built. Together we will hash out the NIMBY concerns (would not be surprised if Walsh threatens to put them all in Hingham so we have to anticipate those sort of implications and have our answers ready). I will be posting an event invitation for 2 meetings on Wednesday (one day, one evening) that I would like to keep limited to COPE members simply because it will be in my home if you would be interested in weighing in on this. Please consider attending one if you possibly can swing it. This is where we translate our feelings about injustice into meaningful action.
