Many of you who follow Bohemian Virgo are also friends of mine in Facebook, but not all, so I am posting to update. I have suddenly and unexpectedly begun a different kind of journey. For two years, off and on, I have had a nagging pain in the abdominal area, and just a general feeling of blah. The pain was on with a vengeance this past Monday, so I came to the emergency room Tuesday morning. After an initial diagnosis of gall bladder (which I had suspected all along), they ran a couple of tests. It turned out to be a cancerous tumor the size if a baseball in my ovary/uterus. Wednesday, they did a complete hysterectomy, plus they removed part of the omentum and some lymph nodes. I say this not to elicit pity or sympathy, I actually prefer jokes and humor. They got 95% of the cancer with the surgery; the rest is near the diaphragm and I will need chemo and/or radiation to take care of that. The prognosis is excellent. So, heres my spin on the situation: I will not be fighting cancer; Im a lover, not a fighter. I have decided to dance with my cancer. Since it has to be a part of my life for a little while longer, I might as well have fun with it. Im thinking the tango . . . BUT! Lets get two things perfectly clear from the get-go: 1) In this dance, I will be leading, and 2)I will be choosing the steps and the ending, not the cancer. Thanks for prayers and support. There will still be much travel ahead, but its going to have to wait just a little bit longer.
