Many of you wrote us private messages asking us to promote and support the The Ocean Cleanup project. Our answer to all was straight and honest, we think that the project needs more research. Our main questions were: 1. How would they separate the microscopic plastic particles from the much needed plankton ( they are the same size ) 2. How are they going to maintain the platform once moored. 3. How are they going to make sure no marine life had been harmed on a daily basis. Please READ this technical review of the project, deepseanews/2014/07/the-ocean-cleanup-part-2-technical-review-of-the-feasibility-study/ We are very happy that the Ocean Cleanup project has brought even more attention to this unfortunate MAN MADE problem ( plastic pollution in our seas and the 5 existing Gyres ) but we have to agree with this very informative review. Our first thoughts: Make a permanent RESEARCH platform, where humans can LIVE on for an extended period of time and truly asses the situation. That would be the first step in our humble opinion.
