Many people are unsure of what a harmful algae bloom (HAB) looks like. While they can be various colors, this video gives a good idea of what to look for. The algae washing up onshore is mostly Cladophora. While that in itself is harmless, its filaments can trap bacteria, so it is best to avoid it. And in this case, the Cladophora is mixed with Lyngbya and Oscillatoria, other blue-green algae that can cause irritation.
