Many people confuse this disease with thyroid problems because of the name. This is a totally different gland and a completely different set of issues caused by an overactive parathyroid gland. Thus the title primary hyperparathyroidism. My mother had thyroid cancer and her symptoms were of a different nature. I think thats why this has eluded us for so long. It is really all about high calcium levels in the bloodstream and it causes infinite problems. I wouldve recognized the thyroid symptoms but this is so different and so sporadic. We are so thankful to know what we are dealing with. Honestly, thats over half the battle in our situation.
