Many people will fail to grasp the importance of this trial and what it means for America. Even fewer are paying attention. -MD "Star-Spangled Racism" by Jon Mcnaughton Racism is alive a well in America and nowhere is it more obvious than in the case of George Zimmerman versus Trayvon Martin. Has America traded one kind of racism for another? We used to hear of white on black racism during the days of Jim Crow. Now, the streets of urban America are filled with mob violence of black people committing racially driven hate crimes against white people---and there is hardly a whisper. Even on this last Independence Day, celebrations were cancelled for fear of black rioting. There are those who now celebrate Independence Day as a time to act out their racist views. It appears that the poles have shifted. Soon there will be a verdict handed down to George Zimmerman from the court and blacks with racially driven hatred have spoken openly about mob violence. It is predicted that it will dwarf the Rodney King riots that led to the death of 53 people in 1992. Today we celebrate black on white racism as “social justice.” Our media, as in the case of NBC, doctored the 911 tape of George Zimmerman to cause him to sound more racist and help forward their narrative. Law enforcement has suppressed evidence of Trayvon Martin’s criminal past to help the case against Zimmerman. Even President Obama commented, “If I had a son he would probably look like Trayvon.” Many racist Americans, both black and white, would love to see Zimmerman put away, regardless of the facts, because in their racist hearts he’s guilty. The rule of law must be enforced and we must not turn a deaf ear to any kind of crime, regardless of the person’s skin color. Wasn’t that the message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? The outcome of the Trayvon Martin Case will be a true sign of where we are as a nation in our battle against racism. Until people identify racism as not just white on black we will suffer in America. via artist Jon McNaughton
