Many preachers today preach that if you simply confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord you will be saved, NOT realizing the fact that it was in the situation and time when Christians were so badly persecuted, martyred and killed that they made that profession. Do you not know that confessing Jesus is Lord was the most dangerous thing you could ever say in the time where Christians were forced to confess Caesar is Lord, where Christians were forced to burn incense to him, where Christians were forced to worship the emperor or king? You see, every time early Christians refused to confess Caesar is Lord and refused to bend their knees to burn incense in worship to him, they were killed. That’s how hard it was to be a Christian during those days. But how about today? Well, very easy and simple…you just raise your hand, walk down the altar and say a little prayer. And after that, to make things even worse, the preacher would say, “Your salvation through Christ is a guarantee of health, wealth, prosperity and happiness because the moment you received Christ, He will fix your life, your marriage, your finances and your self-esteem so you can have your best life now. John Macarthur was right when he said, "In making the gospel easy we’ve created and planted an artificial seed in the hearts of people that cannot produce fruit."
