Maplewoodstock Checklist...this one goes to ELEVEN! 1) Something to sit on from noon until about 9:30pm - it should be soft and comfortable and clean enough so that your neighbors wont wonder where that funky smell is coming from. 2) Lots of drinks because if past history repeats itself, its going to be roughly 87.4 degrees without the music playing. Add 5 degrees on average for the hard rocking bands, and youre up to 92. Robert Randolph generally gives off 18 extra degrees so be prepared. Lots of fluids and, of course, you can buy lots of drinks from our great food vendors or you can visit the team in the Beer Garden. 3) Sun screen. Lots of it. Memorial Park doesnt have a lot of shady spots where the festival takes place so unless you want to be mistaken for a lobster by 2pm, SPF 40. 4) No tents (other than around the perimeter)...no generators...respect your fellow human beings. We want everyone to be able to see the festival without having to peer around your 16 foot high and 12 foot wide monstrosity because then theyll have to bring ladders and thats just silly. And generators make lots of noise and they smell nasty. Would you want to sit in a chair next to someone wearing earplugs and pieces of tissue paper stuffed up their noses all day? Didnt think so. So leave the tents and generators in your backyard and just focus on the clean blankets and the sunscreen. 5) Space! This is not the frontier! Early in the day when people are getting to Maplewoodstock there is generally lots of space for your blankets and everything is cool. By mid-afternoon a lot of the space is claimed which is also cool. What is not cool is coming in the morning and putting out a tarp that measures 80 feet by 100 feet and then disappearing until the last act is scheduled to go on. Aside from being uncool, you’re not going to appreciate the roughly 2,000 dirty looks you get when you show up or the “look at the loser who sits here” that’s been spray painted on your tarp. Please be respectful of others in terms of your space requirements. Take what you need but no more. Thanks! 5) Food! Hey, bring food… or better yet, how about sampling ALL of the delectable treats that our great food vendors will be selling. Very reasonably priced and VERY tasty. And just think about how many calories youre going to burn off by dancing for most of the day down by the stage. 6) If youve been to Maplewoodstock previously you know that weve got a beautiful Arts and Crafts fair going on around the perimeter of the festival. Incredible wares from many local artisans. Aside from the fact that these folks help to sponsor this free festival (thanks!) the stuff they sell is A+ cool and is well worth your attention. Seriously. 7) Got Kids? Youve come to the right place! Lots of great things for kids to do during the day including rides and games. 8) Peace, Love and Understanding! Hey, this is a FREE festival. The vibe at Maplewoodstock is always fantastic and if any of you want to know what makes our community tick just come out with that blanket and chill out for the day. All we really ask is that you bring along a smile, your friendship and the understanding that we all pitch in to make this happen. So please respect your new neighbors, the volunteers, the musicians, the vendors and pretty much all of the 5,000 other people we expect...and, please help us to clean up the area so that its spotless each night when we leave. Please be extra careful about tossing your own trash away and if, by chance, youre sitting next to someone who didnt get the memo, help us out by picking up whatever theyve left behind. 9) Bring your cameras and cell phones and take pics, tweet, do the whole social media thing to let people know how awesome you are to be at Maplewoodstock. Brag if you like. Anyone can go to the beach on July 12 and 13. Maplewoodstock is much cooler. 10) Its not mandatory -at all- but if you have some extra cash to spend please consider buying a Maplewoodstock t-shirt or hat. Proceeds go to helping us pay for the festival and will allow us to continue this beautiful thing for as long as you are interested. 11) Aw, we just added this one for the heck of it. After all, this year we go to ELEVEN! Anyway, thats it for now...We are 5 days away, and we will give you more updates as we get even closer. Its the event of the year...dont miss it. Rain or Shine.
