Marathon Junior Ladies Jessica 40th, Rebecca 43rd & Analiese 44th, 67 starters. Both Rebecca & Analiese are taken out by the Assistant referees motor bike driver, when at the back of the Bunch, but still capable of being in Touch, the Chinese Taipei Girl also but did not finish. When Rebecca told me I said to the ref, what is going on, next lap he stopped & told me sorry for our girls & drew what happened on a piece of paper, they both ended up un the ground & minor scrapes, with the motor bike making contact with Analiese. After the event I got him to walk the two hundred meters to our tent, with the track chief referee to interpret & Apoligise in Person to the girls, Augusto Jimenez a Colombian referee who I knew well when I lived in Colombia & at least to be commend for what he done. In the Junior Men Ollie Jones chased down a Dutch Breakaway, hauled back the 15 sec Gap, then went past & hit the front with 3 km to go, But was hauled back in and had to settle for 18th, with Josh Whyte 36th, Guy McDonald 48th & Shane Miaheare 53rd out of the 67 starters. The brilliant Italian Daniel Neiro won, but the un rated Australian Lionel Mawditt was 5th & almost medalled with Harry Stogdale 13th, both spent time training in Timaru prior to the worlds. Peter did not have the legs & after a couple of frustrating efforts to chase the winning break when others would not work, pulled out early, Antony Nalder fought to the end & would have finished in the low twenties in a brutal race on some rough roads in oppressive conditions, in the middle if the day.
