March 18, 2014 News: Suquamish Tribe: Congratulations Tribal Chairman Leonard Forsman on his re-election and to newly-elected Tribal Coumcil Secretary Nigel Lawrence. Colville Tribe: Congratulations to Richard Tonasket, Omak District Colville Business Councilman who won a special tribal council election after Ernest Brooke II resigned for personal reasons on 2.18.14. Mel Tonasket, former Chair of the Colville Nation, former Chair of the National Congress of American Indians and known as “Uncle Mel” to many of our young NW Indian male and female Warriors will be appointed to the Colville Tribal Council later this week. Mel was the leader who said “We are only as strong as our weakest Tribe ... we all need to be positive, support and work together.” Nooksack Tribe: Congratulations to Robert Kelly who received 380 votes over George Adams who received 337 votes in tribal council elections on March 15, 2014. Naden P Rapada (Zapata) won the Secretary position with 349 votes over Ray Bailey who received 349 votes. For Position A Felisisimo E.Z. Johnny (Emoi) received 356 votes and Robert Soloman who received 363 votes. For Position B Carmen S Tageant won by 363 votes over Agripina Johnson who received 356 Votes. Tulalip Tribe: Congratulations to Mr. Herman Williams Sr. (85 Years Old) who won by 356 Votes and is new Chair of the Tulalip Tribes and Les Parks who won by 406 Votes and is the new Vice Chair of the Tulalip Board of Directors (Council). Glen Gobin a former Board of Director won back his seat on the Board. Former Chair Mel Sheldon lost and received 285 votes and wished the three elected officials the very best.
