March 22, 2014 - Saturday Afternoon Weather Update and Public Storm Warning Signal Satellite image as of 01:52 PM - Saturday Tropical Depression Caloy has made landfall in the vicinity of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. At 11:00 a.m. Saturday, the center of Tropical Depression CALOY was estimated based on all available data at at 70 km Southeast of Surigao City or in the vicinity of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur (9.4°N 126.0°E) with maximum winds of 45 kph. It is forecast to move west at 11kph. Central Visayas, Caraga, and the provinces of Southern Leyte, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Antique, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin will experience rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. The rest of Visayas and of Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms. Cagayan Valley and the province of Aurora will have cloudys skies with light rains. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough. Forecast Positions/Outlook: Sunday morning: 60 km East of Dumaguete City Monday morning: 170 km East of Puerto Princesa Tuesday morning: 170 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City Areas Having Public Storm Warning Signal Signal No. 1 (30-60 kph winds may be expected in at least 36 hours) Luzon None Visayas Southern Leyte Bohol Siquijor Cebu Negros Provinces Guimaras Mindanao Surigao del Sur Surigao del Norte Siargao Dinagat Northern Agusan del Sur Agusan del Norte Northern Bukidnon Misamis Oriental Misamis Occidental Camiguin Public storm warning signals elsewhere are now lifted. Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Luzon and of Visayas due to the Northeast Monsoon.
