March 5 As some of you know, I’m not enamored with clerical garments. In fact, and I have to confess that I have thought this many times, every once in a while I get the insipid thought that the more clerical garments one heaps on oneself, the more one is trying to cover up what is inside. The only time I wear clerical garments is on Sunday morning or when I am at an event where I believe it might be appropriate. Normally, when I make hospital visits I wear what I am in and go in and out pretty much unnoticed, and for some reason, I like it that way. Once in a while, because of schedule and timing, I end up heading for the hospital with clerical garments on. It’s really something, greeted by everyone, called Father a dozen times. One day on the walk, an elderly Hispanic gentleman dropped to one knee, crossed himself, and passed by me with the words, “Bless you Father.” Always reminds me that I am not what people think I am, even when not wearing clerical garments. At the same time I have the belief that God is not interested very much in what other people think of me, but I believe is very much concerned about what I think of other people. It really makes me not care much about what others think or say about me, but before the Lord, I aught to care a lot about what I think and say about others. Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, keep me humble in the awareness of my own sinful nature and shrink down my judgment of others that I am able to deal with others as a part of Your forgiven, forgiving community.
