March Break mayhem at the IPL By Emily Wood Looking for something fun to do this March Break? The Innisfil Public Library is offering plenty of interesting activities, not only for kids but for families as well, looking to spend some quality time together during the break. There’s something for everybody, scientists, musicians, film makers, inventors and even detectives. These activities are full of opportunities to create, with programs running from March 11 through March 15. Some of the events scheduled will feature special guests, including some friendly critters! ZooTek is coming to town on Tuesday, March 11, where some of nature’s most fascinating creatures can be seen and touched. These animals have appeared on YTV and Canada AM, and some of the ZooTek animals have even appeared in commercials. You can meet them up close and personal at the IdeaLAB from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or at the Stroud branch at 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. This event costs $3 and all ages are welcome. In Robot Wars: Angry Birds LEGO Mindstorm robots are used to make catapults. This activity is open for kids ages 9 and up, for $2. It runs at the Cookstown branch on Tuesday, March 11 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the IdeaLAB on Thursday, March 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and at the Stroud branch on Saturday, March 15 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. For the inventors out there, build a Chain Reaction Contraption at the IdeaLAB on Wednesday, March 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Stroud branch on Thursday, March 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and at the Cookstown branch on Friday, March 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is for ages 8 and up and costs $2. A travelling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum, Skulls and Bones, has you identify six mystery skulls. This is a self-guided, free activity, available at the Stroud branch on Tuesday, March 11 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the IdeaLAB on Thursday, March 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and at the Cookstown branch on Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drop in any time to check them out, learn how bones adapt to their environment and what else bone structure can tell us. An indoor quicksand pit, do-it-yourself microscope and stacked liquid tower are just some of the things you can expect to find in the Super Science Lab. Open at the IdeaLAB Tuesday, March 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Stroud on Wednesday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in Cookstown on Thursday, March 13 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Drop in any time for this free activity. Explosion Commotion may also be of interested to the scientifically-inclined. For $2, these messy experiments will cause foam explosions based on chemical reactions. Explosion Commotion is open to kids ages 6 and up. It will be held in Cookstown on Wednesday, March 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., in Stroud on Friday, March 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and at the IdeaLAB on Saturday, March 15 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Create your own Frankenstein by mixing and matching pieces of old toys together to make something new! Old, unused toys will be provided by the library for people to take apart and reassemble in the most creative ways possible. This is fun for the whole family, at $2 per person. Join in the fun in Stroud on Tuesday, March 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the IdeaLAB on Friday, March 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. or in Cookstown on Saturday, March 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Last but not least, Patty McLaughlin will be performing at the IdeaLAB on Thursday, March 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy interactive music, where everyone is part of the show.
