Marcy Perry writes on Job: 1 The strength and life of Job is fascinating. Job had all the riches any man could want. He was blessed with a large family. He had servants to take care of everyone’s needs including his many animals. God had blessed Job greatly for his faithfulness. God stated, “There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” God saw Job as a faithful servant who put Him first at all times. Job even saw that his children were purified by burnt offerings after their gatherings and celebrations. He wanted to make sure his children were cleansed if they had sinned against God. Job wanted his life right with God. Satan saw Job differently. He stated to God that Job was faithful because God protected him. God granted Job all he could possibly want and made his life good. Satan believed that if God took everything from Job; Job would curse God. Then God granted Satan power over all that Job possessed but Satan could not lay a finger on Job himself. What will Job do? Will he remain faithful if all that God has given him is taken away? Satan takes Job’s servants, his oxen, his donkeys, and his sheep. All these possession are stolen or destroyed including the servants. Satan even kills all Job’s children. Job cries out in grief. He tears his clothes and shaves his head. Then does Job begin to curse God as Satan predicts? No, Job falls to the ground and worships God. He says the Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, praise the Lord. Can you imagine? Your children and everything you own is gone. You have nothing. How do you handle that situation? This is where our faith comes into play. We have to trust God no matter how painful our life is here on earth. We have to believe no matter what happens to us or our loved ones, God is in control and He will see us through. This is not an easy lesson. Being Job is very difficult. It is lesson worth pondering. Can I be Job? Can I praise God no matter how devastated I am by what is happening in my life? I pray the answer is yes but I know I am human. Yet, I know no matter how I react, God will see me through.
