Margaret Lucille Long Lindley, 91, of rural Optima, OK, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, TX. She was the fifth child of six born Sept. 4, 1922, on the family farm near Optima to Louis and Josephine (Bauer) Long. She attended Optima Elementary School and graduated from Guymon High School. Margaret attended the Amarillo Secretarial School procuring a job following graduation, but had to resign, returning to the family farm to work as her oldest brother George enlisted in the Navy when WW II began. She married Benson John Lindley on Aug. 2, 1947, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Guymon, OK. Their union was blessed with seven children and was a happy couple enjoying 61 years together until Ben’s death on Dec. 1, 2008. She was a successful homemaker, loving wife and caring mother. She had talents in gardening, cooking, sewing, and music. She was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and belonged to various church organizations over her lifetime. Survivors include her seven children: Michael (Linda) Lindley, Amarillo, TX, Kevin (Saundra) Lindley, Mission Viejo, CA, Rev. Phillip Lindley, Amarillo, TX, Mary (Stacey) Erker, Salina, KS, Martha McClenny, Salt Lake City, UT, Lawrence (Sherry) Lindley, Guymon, OK, Thomas Lindley, Optima, OK; Ten grandchildren: ,Justin (Lisa) Mullins, Kyle (Kala) Lindley, Josh Lindley, Chris Erker, Michelle Lindley, Megan McClenny, Steven Lindley, Catherine (Jon) Franklin, Sarah Lindley and John Lindley, Six great-grandchildren: Lynsey, Kalie, Riley, Taylor, Devin, and Aubreigh. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews: George, Sally, Frances, Louis Jr, Robert, Patricia, Carolyn, and Steven as well as great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ben and siblings, Martha Long, Berneice Rogers, George M. Long, Irene Long, and Louis J. Long Sr and nephews Pat and Steve Lucas, Jim Long, great nephew Daniel Schwartz and great niece Callie Norman. A Prayer Vigil will be held Easter Sunday evening, April 20, 7:00 PM, at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, 501 NW Fifth Street, Guymon. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 pm, April 21, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1220 N. Quinn, Guymon, OK, presided by Rev. Phillip Lindley and Rev. Mike Wheelahan followed by Rite of Committal at Elmhurst Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
