Mariculture is a specialized branch of aquaculture involving the cultivation of marine organisms for food and other products in the open ocean, an enclosed section of the ocean, or in tanks, ponds or raceways which are filled with seawater. Kadongo BMU has been successfully doing mariculture along Mtwapa Creek, Majaoni in Mombasa County. This has given the BMU an upper hand in consistent fish supply to the market. Kadongo Beach Management Unit is currently breeding prawns and Milk fish under their mariculture ponds. The fish is ready for harvesting. The group has also been actively involved in environmental conservation efforts through mangrove conservation project, afforestation to conserve the mangrove and control soil erosion along the beach line and creating community awareness on the same. This afternoon, the department of agriculture led by County Executive of Agriculture Anthony Njaramba will attend a fish harvesting activity that will take place on at 1pm at the Mtwapa Creek, Mombasa side, Majaoni.
