Marin Cilic burst onto the pro tennis tour about the same time as - TopicsExpress

Marin Cilic burst onto the pro tennis tour about the same time as Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray did, circa 2006, but with a more illustrious Juniors stint than his 2 peers. What followed, and with the same lofty projection as Andy and No1e, was a bit less stellar. He never rose to his full potential was the oft times skinny on this Cilic guy, even with one of the best coaches at the helm, Bob Brett. The Cilic-Ivanisevic tandem isnt a story for a casual fans consumption, but for some of us, its the feel good story of the 2014 tennis season; A season that had something for every tennis fan to savour. The usual suspects fared quite well, new faces emerged victorious, and 1 guy had his personal best season of his career, thus far. He propelled Croatia into the mix in Davis Cup competition for 2015 as well, by winning in Singles and Doubles directly after the U.S. Open with little rest. That Marin Cilic, who also happens to be a peach of a guy, so say pretty much all of the announcers in the booth. Hes one of those players you root for, not only for his beautiful game, but for his understated and shy demeanor; His unassuming humility. As a fan, you pay attention to all things regarding your favourites, and the ban from tennis was a dark time for me so said Marin Cilic, but he returned in Melbourne January past, warmly welcomed back by his peers, and with a new hunger for the game he loved so much, and missed so dearly. He returned too, with a new pair of eyes on his game, Goran Ivanisevic. The rest as they say, is history for the books. As one tennis season ends, and a new season begins in less than a month, many an award has been handed-out by the tennis pundits at ESPN. Top 10 Matches Of The Year, Player Of The Year, and Achievement Of The Year to name 3 of many. No mention of what I believe to be the standout player of the year, until today. Thanks Peter Bodo, for both the recognition, and the appreciation of Marin Cilics banner year. When Cilic beat Roger Federer soundly at the U.S. Open this year, one could say he broke a gazillion hearts that day. I read Rogers lips when the 2 shook hands at the net at the matchs conclusion. With a smile, Roger said: Im so happy for you, and I think he meant it. Sometimes in life, and in sport, Nice guys do not finish last., and Bravo Goran and Marin!, from the bottom of my tennis fan heart.
