This older saying means that if a group of people work together, theyre much stronger as a group, than theyre as individuals. Either you stand united, or fall divided. Think about a football team--the quarterback cant win the game by himself. He needs the support and skills of the whole team to win. There is strength in numbers. However, as the numbers becomes smaller, its harder to stand against your foe or the foe against us. Eventually, the smaller group will become defeated
