Mark Gregory’s letter to the editor appears to argue that it is inappropriate for us (or anyone, we presume) to question the will of those elected by 10% of the public. He thinks it is suspect for politicians to pay attention to the will of the “silent majority.” Note from history class: Presidents Reagan and Nixon would strongly disagree. The “silent majority” is a term generally used to describe those who are not 100% politically passionate or ideological but have the best interests of their families and communities at heart. Most of us parents were admittedly pretty silent until recently. Voting is really important; so is not being “silent” once politicians are in office, as we are sure Mr. Gregory would agree.
