Mark Grob von Appenzell posted the original shire arms submission - TopicsExpress

Mark Grob von Appenzell posted the original shire arms submission to the EK Heraldry Chat group on Facebook today and they immediately spotted some significant issues. The primary issue is that a pall field must be three separate colors, and either one or two of them needs to be a metal. After some extensive discussion the following device ideas came up. As far as I know, the original device has not actually failed at this point but it is highly likely that the issue observed today will be a problem for us later. Therefore, we should consider some alternatives. In the image below: Original: What we passed in a poll to submit. A: Makes the top right argent and counterchanges the deer; makes the fimbriation gold instead of white. B: Makes the bottom argent and the top right purpure; makes the wreath purpure; makes the fimbriation gold instead of white. C: Makes the whole field argent, the deer purpure, and the wreath vert. This the simplest and the most period design as far as I can tell. D: Same as C but makes the deer vert and the wreath purpure. Not quite as period due to whats purple. E: Makes the top right argent and the bottom gold which means we dont need fimbriation to keep the pall separate. Counterchanges the deer.
