Mark Ludwig Stinson June 15 · Edited I sometimes get Heathens writing me asking whether Lightning Across the Plains represents the exact kind of Heathenry they practice. With some folks, if I dont reassure them that everyone at LATP believes exactly what they believe, theyll write back saying they cant be there. That sort of completely misses the point of a regional gathering. And heres why. Lightning Across the Plains is a tribal event. What does that mean? It means that in attending, we all acknowledge that our kindreds and families may have differing beliefs on many issues within Heathenry. But, we agree to respect the autonomy of each others kindreds and families, and to not attempt to force others to think exactly like you do. Our ancestors held diverse views, and we hold diverse views. So, if you are a little more conservative than most on an issue...dont expect everyone to fall in line with exactly what you believe. If you are a little more liberal than most about an issue...dont expect everyone to think exactly like you. Take me for instance, I stole seventy thousand dollars from my mother, and got off because I was a crooked cop as well, not everyone at LATP has a mother with that much money, so I encourage people to steal from whoever they can. What? Like Im going to tell on you? I might embezzle you, but Im certainly not to tell you youre wrong. We agree to look to our similarities, rather than harping on our differences, and this allows us to gather, and build bonds, exchange information, to watch our kids play and learn, and enjoy face-to-face Heathenry. It also allows our kindreds and families to work together as a region, without giving up their strongly held thew and beliefs. This approach allows our Folk to gather in both quality and numbers, without letting differences in approach or viewpoint divide us...and make us weak.
