Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer kiss in new The Normal Heart trailer Actors will be portraying characters living in New York City at the beginning of the AIDS crisis during the early 1980s 10 March 2014 | By Joe Morgan Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer share a steamy kiss in a new trailer for The Normal Heart. The actors will be starring in the HBO drama, to be directed by Ryan Murphy, about the AIDS crisis as it unfolded in New York City during the early 1980s. The Normal Heart is based on the largely autobiographical Tony Award-winning play by Larry Kramer. Julia Roberts is also starring as the paraplegic physician who treats several of the earlier victims of the disease Ruffalo will play a gay man who witnesses the disease begin to take the lives of many of his community, while Bomer will play a reporter in the film. Jim Parsons, famously known as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, will reprise his role as gay activist Tommy Boatwright from the 2011 Broadway revival. We are so proud to be involved with this monumental project, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said. Ryan has assembled an extraordinary cast to bring Larry Kramers landmark theatrical achievement to the screen for the first time, and we couldnt be more thrilled to bring this important film to HBO. The Normal Heart will air on HBO on 25 May.
