Mark Shaw challenged us yesterday to hold an arts festval and place a favorite piece of art into the framework of Colossians 1:15-21. The Scream by Edvard Munch is not my favorite piece of art, but it does resonate with me. Turns out that Munch wrote the following poem first and then painted the famous picture as an illustration I was walking along the road with two friends The Sun was setting – the Sky turned blood-red. And I felt a wave of Sadness – I paused tired to Death – Above the blue-black Fjord and City Blood and Flaming tongues hovered My friends walked on – I stayed behind – quaking with Angst – I felt the great Scream in Nature Horror, pain, alienation, injustice - things we too often experience in this life. But thanks be to God that you who were onlce alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, [have] now been reconciled in His body of flesh by His death... 1:21,22 He is reconciling to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his Cross. (vs 20) So because of this Truth, I dont stay trapped in the Scream, nor does Creation. For He is making all things new.
