Mark, it was my pleasure as an Amazon Vine Voice Reviewer to be able to be the first to sing the praises of MOC4 at that site: I dont toss out the word Greatest lightly. If you asked whos the greatest guitarist? I could go on for 30 minutes and Id likely not be able to give you a list of less than ten players. Mark OConnor has earned MY vote for Americas Greatest String Musician in a career that included winning National Championships on SEVERAL different instruments - as a teenager - prior to going on to record and tour with literally a whos who of the leading musicians alive: a SHORT list would include Yo-Yo Ma, Stephane Grappelli, James Taylor, Pinchas Zuckerman, David Grisman, Steve Morse and Wynton Marsalis. Marks main instrument is the violin/fiddle - and I think hed not object to me pointing out that although theyre the same instrument - in the minds of *some* people, theyre as different as night and day. OConnor was first a giant in performance and improvisation, followed by his brilliance as a composer, with pieces which were recorded and performed initially by OConnor himself, but now are being played around the world. Mark absorbed the music of texas fiddlers and gypsy jazz and bluegrass breakdowns and classical concertos and has reimagined it for the enjoyment of us all. As if that werent good enough - he now makes his musical method available for all - this recording is accompanied by a string instruction book designed to turn the aspiring fiddler into mature musical chameleons rather than automatonic robotic slaves to the written page of *some* musical methods. If you didnt already know Marks background, you might be surprised to find a recording (and music book) that stretches from Bach to La Bamba to Bob Wills. He makes music that is beautiful, complex, and explodes boundaries. We are all richer for his gifts. Thanks for sharing, Maestro! -Mark J.
