Mark your calendars: A week from Thursday, May 15th, the Marine Biology Research Program of New York Harbor School will be holding its Third Annual Science Symposium. This has become a crucial event in the school year for our Marine Biology Research CTE, and its also an opportunity for members of the Harbor Community to become involved in a meaningful way with the scientific aspect of Harbors work. Program director Mauricio González describes the event as follows: Approximately 55 science research projects will be put on display in the Schools hallways and Mess Hall for all to view. We also have a guest speaker from the NIH, Dr. Peter Morawski, who will be sharing his exciting and personal journey to research science and talk about his own cutting edge research. We encourage you to participate in one way or another in this important and edifying event for our students. The main project display event will occur between 1 pm and 3 pm on the 2nd and 3rd floor hallways. The guest speaker, student showcase, and awards ceremony will run from 4 pm to 5:15 pm. Below is a list of possible ways you can participate (no previous experience is necessary for any of these events): 01) Volunteer to judge projects anytime between 1 pm and 3 pm (need at least 15 volunteers for this), ... 03) Run the Volunteer table anytime between 12 and 3 pm, 04) Run the project scoring session between 3 and 4 pm, 05) Run lunch for presenters between 3 and 4 pm, 06) Help set up Mess Hall between 3 and 3:30 pm, 07) Help give out the student awards and certificates between 5 and 5:15 pm, 08) Help clean up: between 3 - 4 pm and 5:20 - 5:45 pm, ... 10) Help spread the word to family, friends, and community stake holders!
