Market checkings at Pulwama, Kupwara Realizes Rs. 27,100 from erring traders PULWAMA, JUNE 24: Performing its role as front line organization in protecting the rights of consumers, Legal Metrology department Pulwama under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, Kewal Krishan conducted a surprise market checking of various trade establishments including petrol pumps and weigh bridges of Lassipora and Awantipora area. Inspector Legal Metrology Pulwama, Mohammed Yasin booked several traders who were indulged in anti-consumer practices and Assistant Controller compounded five cases on spot and realized a sum of Rs.11400/- as composition. In one such instance, a trader was fraudulently delivering 34 Kgs of rice instead of 35 Kgs by way of less weighing. The trader was booked on spot for this lapse. In the meantime, the Assistant Controller warned the traders not to be indulged in any kind of anti-consumer practices and appealed to the general public of the area to register their genuine complaints with the office of Assistant Controller or Inspector Legal Metrology, Pulwama and assert their right as consumers. The traders were further warned that any future indulgence in any kind of fraudulent practice will be dealt in a competent Court of Law under Legal Metrology Rules and Consumer Protection Act. Meanwhile, the Legal Metrology Unit of district Kupwara under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Nazir Ahmad Dar conducted inspection of dealers of imported Mobile Phones, Rechargeable lanterns, Computer accessories and other electronic items of Kupwara market and seized 06 mobile phones and 02 Rechargeable lanterns and booked 05 erring traders for violation of Section 33 of the Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1997/ The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011. The team also conducted inspection of other markets and registered 20 cases including 02 petrol pumps for sort delivery and realized a composition of Rs. 15,700/- on spot. It is for the information of the general public to check the mandatory declarations including Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on every packaged item and inform the department in case of any complaint.
