Martin Corey Has Been Freed! Martin Corey is an Irish Republican who was arrested on April 16th, 2010. He was held on secret evidence without trial for four years and was finally freed on January 15th, 2014. His release was won through publicity and protest, many people going to jail themselves to win Martin Coreys freedom. Martin Corey is a former member of the Provisional IRA who was taken prisoner by the forces of British occupation in 1973. At that time he was arrested for his military combat against the British occupation of the northern counties of Ireland. That resistance was spawned in part by the outrages of horrible discrimination against the traditionally Catholic communities living in the northern counties of Ireland and by the brutal repression carried out by British troops and loyalist forces. He was released in June 1992. The four years of internment Martin Corey received most recently was for his political beliefs. The problems of the internment of political prisoners did not end with the Good Friday Agreement.
