Martinican accused of smuggling Cubans from Dominica A man from Martinique has been detained in St. Martin after he was accused of planning to transport 27 Cuban migrants from Dominica to the British Virgin Islands, the Associated Press (AP) is reporting. The AP, quoting St. Martin government spokesman Eric Corbaux, said the 52-year-old Martinique man, who has not been identified, rented a catamaran and left Dominica with the migrants but stopped in St. Martin when he thought he was spotted by a plane. Corbaux said $41,000 in cash was also found in the boat, according to the AP. The AP reported that the police said on Tuesday they suspect the man to be part of a larger human trafficking ring that operates in the Caribbean and is believed to target migrants seeking to enter the US illegally.
