Marvellous BBC2 drama about Neil Baldwin. I am pleased to post a message from Malcolm Clarke (199), former SU President: I have posted previously about the film “Marvellous” telling the story of Keele “legend”, Neil Baldwin which is to be shown on BBC 2 in the autumn (I will post the date when it is known). It was filmed on location at Keele and other locations in North Staffordshire/South Cheshire. The lead roles are played by some very good actors, and in my opinion the script is brilliant I have now seen the film and I think it is superb. It’s very funny but also very moving. The story of a mother’s relationship with her son which has a real message about an approach to life by someone who simply lives and enjoys life to full and has achieved remarkable things despite being “labelled” as someone with learning difficulties. Football and Stoke City, Keele University, the Circus and the Church all feature prominently. Neil got a much-deserved honorary degree from the university last summer. This is to let those based in the south east know that there is a showing of the film followed by a Q & A at the British Film Institute South Bank, London, at 6.15pm on Monday 8th September.
