Mary Sharon asked, We are considering homeschooling. Our school district has a program that is K-12.and free. But is Common Core, and we dont like a lot of it. Not enough basics and a lot of stuff shes just not getting. Shes a struggling reader and so shes not doing as the school ( teacher) expects. We need some ideas. Shes barely passing 2nd grade and we have to get her up to speed for 3rd. She has been diagnosed with ODD Oppositional Defiant Disorder, so Im not sure if I can teach her. My son was homeschooled from 7th-12th. He was a compliant child and a self learner, so it was very easy. Her school is finally talking about her having an aide in the classroom, but not every day. The teacher just doesnt have time to help her and this year the teacher wouldnt let me help her or then let me in the room because It distracted her (!). I have been helping, but didnt know how to control her behavior till now, Im learning, too. Anyone have any ideas? Experiences to share about how you taught a defiant child?
