Maryland State Arts Council’s (MSAC), newly released Economic Impact of the Arts in Maryland: FY13 strongly demonstrates how MSAC’s 260 grantee arts organizations and their audiences boost jobs, salaries and taxes in the state. Maryland’s nonprofit arts industry added $1 billion to the economy. 7.4 million visitors at Maryland’s art events spent 7% more than in FY2012 and generated an estimated $369 million in direct spending, up from $345 in FY2012. The arts sector generated 12,000 full-time equivalent jobs equaling $367 in salaries. Also, nonprofit arts added $45 million to state and local tax revenues. And, every $1 of the arts organizations’ operating budgets produces an additional $3.21 in total economic activity. Read the full report.
