Masaka police have clashed with some youths in Ssenyange division in Masaka municipality protesting the death of their colleague under unclear circumstances. The deceased has been identified as Isma Mukasa, a former employee of Tuwereza Bakery along Elgin Street in Masaka town. His body was retrieved from Lake Nabugabo on Monday morning, raising questions on how Mukasa met his death. Mukasa’s friends suspect that he could have been murdered and his body dumped in the Lake. It is not clear how Mukasa got to Nabugabo given the fact that he was seen in Masaka town on Sunday. On receiving news about the death of Mukasa, his friends from Nyendo and Ssenyange villages rushed to Nabugabo Sand beach and transported his body back to his parent’s home in Ssenyange village. However, on arrival with the body at Mukasa’s parent’s home his father Hakim Mukasa and his wife identified as Joweria rejected it. Mukasa told the youth numbering to about 80 that, he couldn’t allow the deceased’s body into his home because he had committed suicide saying it would being a bad omen on his household. According to Mukasa, he had information that his son had threatened to commit suicide when he opposed his plans to sell part of his land. However, this didn’t go down well with the youths. They roughed up Mukasa and started vandalizing his house while threatening to set it ablaze. They overpowered Mukasa, who they accused of masterminding the death of his son forcing him to flee into hiding. It took the intervention of police on Tuesday morning to disperse the angry youths. John Mwaile, the Masaka District Police commander says they intervened after the overnight riots by the youths. Mwaile also said they had launched comprehensive investigations to establish how Mukasa met his death.
