Massive shout out to the 31 members of the Hughes family who will attempt to break a Guinness World Record at the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon for the most members of one family to complete a marathon. They appear to be on track to get the record, as only 17 of them need to cross the finish line within a 7.5-hour span to surpass the current record. This will not be the Hughes family’s first appearance in the record books. Thirty years ago, the eight male children in the Hughes family completed the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon and set the Guinness World Record for most siblings to complete a marathon. Members of the Hughes family will travel from locations throughout Ireland, the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany to run Monday’s race. Only three of the eight brothers who set the record in 1984 will compete on Monday, but many of the 13 siblings’ children—the brothers have five sisters— will step in to help out. The Hughes family was inspired to pursue the record after losing a family member to suicide. They are running to raise money for the mental health charity On The Road Again.
