Master Art Direction workshop in Tokyo 14 students from the - TopicsExpress

Master Art Direction workshop in Tokyo 14 students from the second year Master Art Direction class, will have the opportunity to do the “What would Mr.Nakajo do?” project in Tokyo. They will be lead by Philippe Egger, Head of the Master AD Programme and Erwan Frotin, Professor and Photographer based in Paris. Encompassing photography, texts, graphic design and type experiments, the students will each create and produce editorial pieces in Tokyo. Additionally to working on their projects they will do studio visits to meet personalities (photographers, graphic designers and art directors) who shape Japanese culture today. Our programme encourages collaborations between photographers, graphic designers, type designers and art directors. More precisely we would like to focus on Mr. Nakajo’s work he did as the Art Director of Hanatsubaki form 1968 to 2008, and use his work as an inspiration create and tell our own stories of Tokyo from a contemporary western perspective. Hanatsubaki the corporate culture magazine of Shiseido is a great example of a magazine which balances effortlessly between culture and commerce. Using the magazine as a media to spread Shiseido’s sensibilities and aspirations instead of solely advertising their products, it became an environment which fostered experimental communication through design, text and images. These characteristics make Hanatsubaki so interesting as a subject to study in the context of our Master in Art Direction programme at ECAL. At the end of the trip a small reception to showcase the work produced during our stay, will be held at the Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Ginza on the 25th of october from 5pm to 7:30pm. swatchgroup/fr/marques_et_entreprises/presences/n_g_hayek_center_tokyo
