Match Facts: Huntingdon Sun FC 7-2 Tydd St Mary Res The Riversiders opened their league account with an emphatic win over the travelling Tydd St Mary side, lifting them to the top of Division 5. The Sun looked in control from the start and soon found themselves 1-0 following the strike partnership of Lionel Farrell and Aaron Wood linking up well and Farrell found the back of the net after 14 minutes and the pair was at it again on on 23 minutes and Farrell got his brace, not before Tydd equalizing from a free kick that was awarded just outside the box after Gary Wigmore was adjudged to have handled the ball, the resulting free kick was hit low and hard into the bottom right hand corner past the Suns number one Edgars Ledajs. On the 34th minute Farrell found the net again after calmly rounding the last man and slotting it home in the middle of the goal, to collect his hatrick. After the break The front pair continued to dominate and this time it was Aaron Wood who notched on 50 minutes with a powerful strike past the wanting Tydd St Mary keeper and six minutes latter Farrell was to get his fourth goal and complete what was a great first game for the club, again not before Tydd halved the deficit with yet again well struck drive low and hard into the bottom right of the goal. Substitute Steve Layton got on the score sheet with a cross come shot that looped over the keeper on 67 minutes and Braden Jamie Crouch another second half substitute struck on 80 minutes with the goal of the game having travelled in from the left wing and from 25 yard drilled the ball high into the net to wrap up the win. Managers Comments: Although we gave Tydd the run around yesterday there are still areas of improvement, the middle looked lethargic and disjointed at times and against a better team we would have been punished. The wide players put in a great performance to support the front two going forward but lacked a little in supporting the defense however with Daley Smith playing out of position in a wide role this was to be expected as Daley is a striker, that being said both wings looked strong at times throughout the game. We played too deep at times and invited them on which led to their two goals.... So plenty to work on this week in readiness for our home game next week against Thorpe Wood Rangers who will be looking for their first win following a 5-1 drumming at the hands of Eye United. Some changes are likely to strengthen the team in certain areas to assist us in striving towards a second win which we must demand from ourselves as a unit. Man of the Match : Lionel Farrell
