Match Report: Jeffrey United Vs Rosyth FC STEVIE Crawford, Chopsticks Takeaway, The Dockyard, Superfast Ferries, The Taste of India, International Decorative Surfaces, The wee Tesco Metro aff the King’s Road…..your boys took one hell of a beating!! In unprecedented scenes at Quarry Park Stadium tonight Third Division minnows Jeffrey United took on newly crowned Premier League Champions the mighty Rosyth FC in this JS Anderson Cup Quarter-Final. The Jeffrey Ultras were out in force having all signed on early to ensure their place in the newly named BringbackJacko enclosure. This mob had clearly been spending considerable proportions of their giros on White Lightning and not-so legal highs. The atmosphere was electric as the famous yellow jerseys made their collective way to the hallowed QP turf. The omens were good from the off as the threat by the Black Widow Wendy Briggs to turn up and support the lads never came to fruition, and Kieran Thomson came out of the dressing room fully clothed which is always a bonus. The sidelines were heaving, but that soon past once McKay put his top back on, and the two captains’ made for the centre for the all-important toss. Tonight’s official had rushed back from a double session at Tanfastic to make the kick-off, he was hoping to avoid any extra time as if it had got dark any quicker the players would never have seen him. Jeffrey’s got off to a quick start, which is unusual for them as they normally use the first fifteen minutes of the game as their pre-match warm-up. The crowd also took no time at all to get fired up and reach full intimidation mode immediately after Tommy Sheridan blew the opening whistle. After ten minutes the impossible happened and Jeffrey’s took the lead with a piece of individual brilliance from Jamie McNeil. The scenes at QP were unbelievable as McNeil’s strike prompted a near crowd invasion as the Ultra’s could barely control their emotions, or hold their drink, one of the two. However, five minutes later the lead was cancelled out by a wonderful free kick that left ‘keeper Neilski static between the sticks, probably knackered after spending ten minutes lining up the wall with his slide rule and protractor. Any criticism of Neilski’s movement on the free kick was cancelled out by his wonderful save shortly afterwards as he tipped a goalbound effort over the bar to prevent the Premier League winners from taking the lead. On thirty-five minutes big Topher O’Hara tested the opposition ‘keeper and the resultant save fell to McNeil who fired wide across goal much to the disbelief of the sidelines. Half-time: Jeffrey United 1 – 1 Rosyth FC Head Coach Bissett gathered the troops for a half-time team talk designed to fire the lads right up, the use of a blowtorch and a gallon of petrol was perhaps a bit extreme but the effect was devastating. Within twenty-three seconds of the restart Rico ensured his 100% scoring record remained intact and restored the Jeffrey advantaged. Six minutes later McNeil was upended in the box and Rico wrestled the ball off McKay, who has had more bad results from the spot than young Farrance. Even with the additional pressure of seeing McKay sticking pins into his effigy, Rico calmly slipped the spot kick past the Rosyth custodian. Not to be outdone McKay made it four-one five minutes later to send the now stunned stand into raptures. It is worthy of note here that not all the action was limited to the front men, the back four of Kip, Big G, Sonds and Nobsy were playing the collective game of their life, very little got past them, they chased everything, pushed up, chased back and were the very definition of resolute, an outstanding performance acknowledged by the knowledgeable crowd. HCB had to replace McNeil on fifty-eight minutes, as he’d not fully recovered from the injury sustained in the penalty incident. He was greeted to a heroic round of applause from the sidelines as Sparky Anderson replaced him. Shortly after his introduction Sparky netted Jeffrey’s fifth goal of the night and Jeffrey’s 100th competitive goal of the season, assuring him a place in Jeffrey folklore. McKay added his second and the Jeff’s sixth on seventy-eight minutes sending the now apoplectic crowd onto the pitch to join the celebrations prompting concerns that David Dickinson would abandon the match, however he didn’t and the celebrations continued. HCB tinkered again with Cruickshank replacing Haigy and goalless striker Russell replacing Rico up front. With the game nearing conclusion and darkness descending over Quarry Park, Sparky ended proceedings with his second of the night. A night that will long be remembered in Jeffrey history as the night they beat the best team in Fife. Final Score: Jeffrey United 7 – 1 Rosyth FC Man of the Match: How do you go about picking one of these lads above everyone else, an almost impossible task but by a bawhair I’m giving it to Nobsy, after recent poor performances, especially that one against Tam’s Bar where he escaped humiliation in the match report, this was an outstanding display of defending, I can’t recall where or when he lost a header or a tackle all night. An outstanding performance in an outstanding defence. And for runner-up, one point each for the whole team in which was without doubt the Jeffrey’s best performance of the season. Does beating the best team in Fife make you the best team in Fife? Tonight it in Jeffreyville it does, and on the strength of that result few would argue. Unbelievable Jeffs!
