Match Report Walsgrave Hospital 2 Crashley A.N. Other Stoke Green 3 The Green continued the winning form exhibited on Sunday against the Minstrel Boy, but had to battle hard against a good central midfield combo for the hospital. Joseph Henry named a changed XI, with Anthony Mullen coming in at sweeper, Tully Dhanda at right wing and Carl Jones coming in to replace Max McConnell at centre midfield. The Green had a solid opening 20 minutes without being spectacular. Anthony Mullen was a rock during this period, providing support to Piers Hargreaves. Paddy Ryan went close , with an effort from distance shaving the paintwork off the bar. Lee Satchwell also went close, but was victim to a few dubious offside decisions. Against the run of play, Walsgrave Hospital took the lead from a scrambled effort from the impressive Jack Crashley. The Walsgrave lads took the impetus and added a soft second, which the Stoke Green defence will not be happy with upon review. However, the boys did not let their heads got down. Skipper Ryan Marshall lead by example, picking the ball up and finishing exquisitely from 20 yards to halve the deficit. From this point you could sense a wounded and hungry Green side would claw their way back into this fixture. Lee Stachwell, already dangerous throughout and supported by Deejay Nott, picked the ball up around 20 yards from goal and found the roof of the net, via the underside of the crossbar. Having never deserved to be 0-2 down, Stoke Green were now level. This was a massive lift for the lads, who had to deal with a strong Walsgrave central midfield pairing. Half Time came soon after; Henry was implored to make changes in order to secure a result. The introduction of Louis Lea, a prodigal son having left the Green but now returning, was added to the fray, as was Adam Chandler and the dependable Iain Coulton. These substitutions reaped the reward intended, with Lea finishing a classy move from Stoke Green to put the lads in a lead which would prove to be unassailable. Jamie Bedding was solid thereafter; Anthony Mullen proved himself yet again in the sweeping role. Tommy Colquhoun was a solid addition to the proceedings, getting vital touches to prevent the Hospital getting back into the tie. Danny Carey came on to good effect , holding the ball up well; the same could be said of Jodan Howard. Marshall lifted his game and began to match the strong central midfield pairing of Walsgrave Hospital. The Green held out for the win, and in all honest could have ran up the scoreboard with some precise finishing; however, the manager will be happy with a result having been 2-0 down. Every lad in the Green shirts proved grit and a will to win. This fixture will help with the development of the team. It must be noted that Stoke Green were missing two standout performers from Sunday, namely Jack Thomas and vice captain Maxtone McConnell. The addition of these two solid player will only be beneficial in Sundays meeting with Rileys. Character and Grit were the currency tonight. Football and guile should replace these on Sunday in more suitable conditions. All in all, a gritty and determined performace; but Stoke Green are capable of more - this will be demonstrated on Sunday Man of the Match : Anthony Mullen - solid , dependable. All whilst being out of his preferred position Performance of note : Louis Lea - made the difference on the right
