Match report. With a healthy away following at the Sir Alfred Davies Memorial Ground, it was the Poppies who started on the front foot. James Clifton’s diagonal pass found Andy Hall on the left and his cross was blocked for a fruitless corner. Then Dubi Ogbonna sent Hall into the box and there was a hint of a push on the wide man as he got in his cross- which was cleared. Tommy Hull then put pressure on Jamie McAlindon from a back pass but the keeper just managed to hack the ball away. The Poppies were spraying the ball across the big playing surface and two Louis Hamilton crosses were well defended. On 9 minutes a flowing move involving Hall and Andy Gooding saw Ogbonna’s shot saved by Oneal Garnes at short range- although the Assistant’ flag did subsequently indicate an offside. Lee Barney then created a good position for himself on the left and McAlindon made the save. Clifton’s 12thminute cross found Ash Robinson at the far post and his header across goal saw Hall stretching to fire wide under pressure from a defender. Marlow had repelled Kettering’s opening burst and in the 21stminute nearly scored themselves. Jordace Holder-Spooner crossed for Barney and his shot was stopped by McAlindon’s legs. Kettering powered forward and another dangerous Hamilton cross was well headed away by Craig Scott. Andy Hall then saw his left foot effort drift wide. There was controversy on 32 minutes. From a corner, the ball fell to James Clifton on the penalty spot and as he shaped to shoot he was upended. The Referee saw no offence. Kettering continued to have the majority of possession and Brett Solkhon’s 38th minute header from a corner was well saved by Garnes. A minute later another Solhon header, this time across goal from Gooding’s cross, saw Clifton stretch to get the shot in as the ball drifted wide of the left upright. Ash Robinson fired wide and Hall’s cross from the left was glanced at goal by Solkhon but Garnes was well placed to save. Holder Spooner got a 43rd minute cross in but there were no takers and in added time, Garnes made another point blank save from Hall. There had been plenty of good play by Kettering in the half but no end product. Half Time: Marlow 0 - 0 Kettering Town The first chance of the half saw Solkhon head on Robinson’s long throw and Hamilton’s header was saved by Garnes. On 51 minutes, Clifton’s left foot shot was just over the bar. Three minutes later, Marlow took the lead. A corner from the right was won at the far post and headed into the six yard box. The unmarked Devontae Romeo hooked the ball past McAalindon. It could have been 2-0 on 57 minutes as Barney got away down the right and McAlindon saved well. Again Marlow threatened as the Poppies tried to recover. This time a poor pass let in Jake Parrott but Tommy Hull made an excellent block. James Clifton had a decent chance on 64 minutes as he went through down the right- but the shot was wide. Kettering equalised on 66 minutes through an unlikely source. Steve Kinniburgh collected the ball just in the opponents half, raced forward unchallenged and unleashed an unstoppable 25 yard shot past Garnes into the top right hand corner. Just five minutes later Kettering took the lead. Gooding threaded a great ball between the defenders and Andy Hall ran on to dispatch another great right foot shot past Garnes and in at the left upright. The lead was short lived however, as, again from a corner, Marlow scored. A short corner on the right saw Holder-Spooner curl a left foot shot just inside the left upright. The very next minute it was nearly 2-3! Hall’s cross from the right was somehow missed by both Ogbonna and substitute Jon Bukasa from close range. On 80 minutes, substitute Alfie Taylor was denied by a combination of Garnes and Scott as he fired goalwards from Hall’s low cross. It was anyone’s game as Josh Moreman, who had come on after 60 minutes, scuffed a shot wide and at the other end, McAlindon excelled pushing over Romeo’s left foot shot. What was to be the winner in the last minute of normal time also came from a corner. From the left Romeo got to the by-line and his low cross came off Scott and into the net. In added time Clifton headed over a Gooding free kick as he was held down by a defender. The very last action saw Andy Hall felled in the box by a high tackle, and as the player lay injured, the Referee blew for full time, and left the player stranded on the ground. Full Time: Marlow 3 - 2 Kettering Town Attendance: 256 (Poppies Fans estimated at 160) Kettering Town Man of the Match: Andy Hall
