Matt Malpass entered the Writers Digest Self-Published 2014 ebook awards, and he got the judgement back today: Entry Title Mr Barry & Mr Matt, A True Story with Lies Author: Matt J Malpass Judge Number: 43 Entry Category: Genre Fiction Rating: 1 = needs improvement 5 = Outstanding Judge, 2nd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published eBook Awards scoring: Structure, Organization, and Pacing: 4 Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar: 4 Production Quality and Cover Design: 4 Plot and Story Appeal: 4 Character Appeal and Development: 5 Voice and Writing Style: 5 Judge’s Commentary: Mr. Barry and Mr. Matt is an entry that makes me think of womens fiction or chick flick if it were being written for men instead. Not sure what that category would be called but this one fits the bill and it was really quite enjoyable. I dont believe Ive ever read anything quite like it and that is truly refreshing. The cover is simple but effective and the story is both humorous and heartfelt. This is a real gem of an entry. Theres no really solid plotline, but the story flows smoothly nonetheless. It is kind of like a guilty pleasure and the authors voice is clever, witty, and downright adorable. This novel is clearly character driven and the main characters are so believable and down to earth that I wonder if they are based on real life people. I never once felt as if I was reading a forced fiction here. Beautifully written and a solid entry through and through. On the editorial side of things, it was mostly technically sound. Im not a fan of the big chunky style paragraphs, but thats not a huge issue. The line editing was good and the dialogue was sharp and believable. I can really only say that I hope to read more from this author in the near future. Well done! Were very happy with the review!
