Robert Plant was born on this day in1948. Best known as the vocalist and lyricist for Led Zeppelin he has also been a member of The Honeydrippers with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck & Nile Rodgers. Plant is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock and roll and was named by readers of Rolling Stone as the best lead singer of all time. In 2009 he was awarded theCommander of the British Empire outranking Jimmy Page’s Order of The British Empire!! Arguably the best recording by Plant after Led Zep is No Quater his “live” collaboration with Jimmy Page. Originally released in 1994 and then released remaster in 2004 (the one to listen to) features Zep classics and four middle-eastern flavoured tunes. After a few listens this album can really be appreciated. There is a complexity here that the originals don’t have.
