Matthew 27:21-26 So when the governor spoke and asked them, Which of the two do you want me to release for you? They said Barabbus. But in that case, Pilate said to them, What am I to do with Jesus who is called Christ? They all said, Let him be crucified! Why? He asked, What harm has he done? But they shouted all the louder, Let him be crucified! Then Pilate saw that he was making no impression, that in fact a riot was imminent. So, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd and said, I am innocent of this mans blood. It is your concern. And the people, to a man, shouted back, His blood is on us and our children! Then he released Barabbas for them. He ordered Jesus to be scourged and then handed him over to be crucified. These people were beyond listening to any reasoning at this point. The chief priests and the elders had them so worked up that they were ready to riot if things did not go their way. I think about the old western lynch mobs coming to the jails demanding the prisoner so they could take them and dish out their own brand of punishment. Pilate then told them that his blood was on their hands and not his. And the people agreed that the blood of Jesus would not only be on THEIR hands, but also on the hands of their children! They were so convinced that they were doing the right thing that they bet their childrens life on it. My friends, it happened then, it has happened since then, and it still happens today..... Question your pastors leadership. Question those in authority over you. Dont let someone else tell you how to think. Make sure what they are teaching you is true. Father today, may we not get so caught up in the things around us that we lose sight of the truth. Bless each one as we open our eyes to see and our ears to hear, in Jesus name...
