i saw a post about a pig who respected an open carry demonstration. he was quoted saying that he is out to arrest criminals not law abiding citizens i noticed there was not one person of color in the group... so i look at the comments...and someone posted a comment pointing out that the outcome may have been different if they werent white so that led to white folks coming in and saying 1. africans also sold slaves in africa during the slave trade 2. its in the past, white folks were once enslaved too. 3. both sides are to blame for the conflict. 4. why bring up jim crow it was obviously racist but it was also abolished. and other comments along that line. so, i can respect the fact that even though many of us use machines that can instantly access almost the entirety of human knowledge in seconds...that some of us might not really be too internet literate or even know what to look for. so to the unfortunate folks who may lack some fundamental historical and current socioeconomic facts...here you go 1. africans selling each other under slavery was only a part of a history in whose context foreign exploitation of africas resources had left some folks with little economic alternatives to being a part f the total system of african wealth extraction. some of the jews in germany were used to manage the rest..didnt save them in the end...some prisoners are used to maintain prisons and get some type of revenue for it..doesnt make them any more free..their positions in those systems dont empower them as a people by any degree. only as individuals and under the very conditions of a system that gave them little alternative to begin with. 2. it is true that there were times in western history when what we now know as white folks were treated as barbarians and even slaves. the paradigm and power structures in the regions and the rest of the world, however, are now different than they were in those times. the wealth that fueled the rise of the current hegemonic sociopolitical and economic order was derived from a combination of slavery, invasion, and colonization of the african and american continents. 3. although it may help us become more comfortable with our prejudices, comparing the backlash of a historically marginalized and oppressed group to the aggression of the group who has murdered, enslaved, exploited, and marginalized them equalizes the power each side has when the current conditions between people of color and white power structures (mostly institutions not really white individuals who are only a part of the total system- sometimes unknowingly) is anything but unequal. this is true on every level of well being in every situation even when you factor in wealthy people of color it pales in comparison to the overall statistical dat of people in their racial demographic. 4. to claim that institutional racism has been abolished is to ignore the systematic inequalities like a majority of people of color making up the prison population in a country with the largest and in which they only account for a combined 30% or so of the total population. the criminalization of conditions and behaviors) prevalent in communities that have been historically marginalized and impoverished (street vending, loitering, etc etc), the criminalization of people of color even in behavior that are NOT prevalent in their communities (drug use being the primary example as the US is the worlds largest consumer with white folk consuming more than both latino/black communities). i could go on to describe the inequalities that manifest themselves in the private sector and social fabric that were also a result of a culture fostered and promulgated by the existing hegemonic institutions...but nah not looking to argue..if knowing this you choose to cling on to your prejudice then do so. an internet argument wouldnt do much to change any of this...however..if you were unaware of these things and this helped shed some light on anything..then share the wealth and enjoy #rantdone #timeforplaystation
