Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG) “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. ********************************* You and I are little lights; Jesus is THE LIGHT. We are the small lamps used in a household; He is the big, bright, Morning Star. We are to be like Him in this way: to shine and reflect His glory to the World around us. We have become light bearers. It is not a secret; it is the best news in the World. We need to share it with everyone that we come in contact with. We need to LIVE it wherever we are. Bring out the God-colors in the World. Point people to the ONE who has made this relationship with God possible. We have nothing to hide and many lives to touch. Live your life as an offering to your Savior. So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 (MSG) Be generous with your lives. How? By opening yourself up to others. By embracing what God has done for you and living your life to the fullest for His glory. Do not be like the servant who hid his talent, but instead like the servant who took his talents and multiplied them. Be generous with what God has given you, just as He is generous with you. Stop waiting for the opportune time to go about Gods business. Now is the time! Now is the day of salvation! Let us live this life as if there were no tomorrow, because that certainly may be true. There are no guarantees! We may not have a tomorrow here on Earth. Today, as you go about your day, be sure that Jesus is shining forth from you. Shine, Jesus, Shine in each one of our lives!
