Matthew 5:41 (NIV) "If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles." Being forced to do something is like being required to do something. For some, being forced to go one mile brings about an image of brute or cruel force. However, let us consider the application of the instructions of "go with them two miles." Part of being Christ-like means having the heart to serve and to be humble. That being the case, thinking about or being asked to do more than what is required can be out of the question! Doing more than what is required means having the heart of a humble servant. If doing more than you are required to do is a challenge for you, know that Faith is developed everyday through tests and trials. And no test or trial is too big or too small! Jesus did something very big when he demonstrated his faith during his ministry and path to the cross. We as Christians have to work toward having faith like Jesus...everyday. So doing something that requires us to GO THE EXTRA MILE can be a faith-building challenge. Going the extra mile is as training for a marathon. It can be showing up to work 30 minutes early; paying a little more on a bill; or trusting God enough to tithe! Doing such things can be considered a going an extra mile in addition to the required mile. The more miles that are trained for, the more endurance built for the race to Faith. Persevering through such small tests can condition us for maturity and wholeness. Practice going the extra mile in order to be better today than you were on yesterday.
