Matthew Chase Stroud, a southwestern author, has recently published his debut novel, Paths of Young Men. The story follows three brothers after the death of their mother, and viciously tackles the emotional turmoil that accompanies the loss of a loved one. As an ardent writer, Chase (what you will hear people calling him) spends a majority of his time writing short stories and working on his subsequent novel, The Judged—a story about a young transient, roaming the Georgian hill country in search of his younger sister—a tale as backcountry and close to home as you are bound to read. When he is not writing, Chase likes to hoof it about on his local Tucson turf to get the ideas flowing. If you are ever in town, you may see him jogging past the window fronts downtown or near the university. If he is not writing, jogging, or hiking, he is spending time with his wife in their garden, or with the farm animals that they tend to in north Tucson. If you are interested in a quick read, or just want to wade through the waters of his rhetoric for a few minutes, he does a good deal of work on his blog--either writing short stories or excerpts from his novels.
