May 15 “Without the support from the YMCA’s after-school program and counselors Julian would have never been given a chance to excel” says Ginger, Julian’s mother. Julian was born with a learning disability that left him struggling in school. Thanks to the excellent support and attention he received through the YMCA’s after-school program Julian has been an Honor Roll student through elementary school. He continues to take on challenges with a positive outlook and instead of hating school he enjoys going. When asked about his favorite part of the day, Julian’s answer was “Going to see my friends at the YMCA!” With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, Y afterschool programs serve kindergartners through middle school students with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents.
